Sunday, January 5 features the second annual meeting of the Kansas Beginning Farmers Coalition (KBFC). KFU staff will welcome attendees at 10:00 A.M., and KFU board member Linda Hessman will discuss the importance of agricultural advocacy along with Jessie Deelo of Farm Aid.
John and Karen Pendleton will join the group before lunch to talk about their farm, Pendleton’s Country Market, and their outlook for the future of family agriculture in Kansas. That afternoon, representatives of the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s “From the Land of Kansas” program will be on-hand to discuss the program and answer questions from producers.
Luke Mahin, co-director of Republic County Economic Development will then discuss social media and marketing, and how both can help producers with direct marketing and promotion of their products and operation.
The rest of the day will be devoted to open discussion among KBFC members to find out what they want to see out of the organization, and how KFU can help make those expectations a reality.
