Sustainable livestock production can be a valuable asset to any farm, but can be a daunting proposition to those who are just starting out. A successful livestock operation requires planning, clearly defined goals and a strong understanding of marketing channels. This workshop showcases a bona fide who’s who of local livestock producers, their unique husbandry systems and business models. Attendees should leave with greater awareness of alternative livestock farming in the region, a sense for whether livestock production is right for them and some resources to get started. Presentations will highlight the basics of farm planning and start-up, animal management practices, livestock marketing as well as unique considerations for respective species. Workshop concludes with a walking tour of nearby pasture-raised livestock farm and buying club Bonnie View KC. Come with questions for our “A-List” cast of farmers and ranchers.
