Larry Biles is a husband, father, grandfather and a forester. His formal education includes a BS in Forestry from the University of Missouri and a MS in Ornamental Horticulture from Kansas State University. Following two years with the US Army, Larry spent 8 years as a District Forester, Kansas State University; 7 years as the Urban Forestry Coordinator, USDA Forest Service, Atlanta, GA; 5 years as a Real Estate Property Manager, Lawrenceville, GA; 13 years as Forestry Program Leader, USDA Extension Service, Washington, DC; 5 years as Director, Southern Forestry Research Partnership, Athens, GA; and was named State Forester, Kansas Forest Service in July 2008. Larry is a Fellow in the Society of American Foresters.

The Forest Service can assist producers with farm planning, how to utilize its many services and the conservation tree planting program.  Many forestry related opportunities exist for beginning farmers including specialty crops, fruit, lumber and Christmas trees.
