Adam and Maggie Pounds know the importance of safe handling of the produce that they grow on their farm. They recently completed the Produce Safety Alliance FSMA(Food Safety Modernization Act) Training designed for farmers who grow and market fresh fruit and vegetables. Following the completion of FSMA, Adam and Maggie, owners of Simple Abundance Farm, have also added a licensed kitchen to their operation to sell their properly processed, labeled, ready to eat product. Producers attending the tour will learn how easy it is to attend a class that teaches them safe food handling that protects the integrity of the fruits and vegetables that they raise. Growers will understand that learning about food safety is a very wise decision to protect their business also.
Adam and Maggie sell their produce on the farm, at the Hutchinson Farmers Market, and also at the second tour stop of the day, JaKo Farm. JaKo Farm sells a variety of their own farm raised products at the family farm store.
Simple Abundance Farm
Simple Abundance Farm is a small-scale urban vegetable farm. Adam and Maggie are first generation farmers and Hutchinson natives. They cultivate fresh nutritious, and flavorful produce, specializing in a variety of baby greens, lettuce mixes, salad mixes, and microgreens. They use natural and sustainable, biointensive farm methods to produce high yields on a minimal amount of land while maintaining the integrity of the environment. Along with growing and selling produce, they also make and sell small batch naturally fermented foods containing live cultures and locally grown produce. They create and sell a variety of sauerkrauts, pickled vegetables, fermented stone-ground mustards, and fermented salsas!
